No stranger to theatre

Claudia on a life-changing
experiance:
"I was on a plane with shocking turbulence. The guy sitting next
to me, who had been trying to hit on me for most of the flight, asked
if he could hold my hand. I told him there was a distinct possibility
that we were going to die. I suggested he send out some messages of love
to people he cared about, rather than spending the last moments of his
life trying to pick up a complete stranger. I realized then that while
I was calm and capable in a crisis, I was also a hard-faced bitch."
Claudia's comments
on Farscape's cancelling:
"Gosh, I have so much to say about the show finishing, but I know
that SCI FI tried their hardest to make it work. Everyone did. Only a
very small percentage of shows even make it to a fourth season. Even though
we didnt get to finish the story the way we wanted to, on our terms,
we should be very, very proud of all we accomplished. By that I mean what
the makers and the viewers achieved. We were all in it together."
Claudia "Farscape"
being the most expensive production ever in Australia at $2 million an
episode:
"it was interesting becoming victim to the exchange rate as well,
because certain things would be possible one day, and then the next day
things would change slightly. And I think it's certainly the most ambitious
project we've ever had in terms of fast turnaround tv because we were
shooting an episode every ten days with the last three days overlapping
with the B-Unit. And to shoot that on 35mm cameras it was an extraordinary
feat. I don't know whether it's something to boast that it's the most
expensive show but we certainly put all the money on the screen so it's
something to be proud of."
Claudia on telling
her family she was going to be an actor:
"I come from a very long line of family members who went to university
-they are all academics. I'm like the black sheep of the family, and I
thought I was going to have to book two ambulances to stand outside the
house when I told them one night at dinner that I was leaving university.
I lasted three weeks and the deadline at university for paying fees was
at the end of the third week, and I thought, well, before Mum and Dad
have to start forking out any cash for my tuition, it's probably a good
time to tell them I'm getting out. And they almost had a heart attack.
It was just one of those amazing moments."
Claudia on a career
low while performing as Portia in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice:
''At the beginning of the very famous 'quality of mercy' speech, I completely
blanked, and the theater was so quiet that I could actually hear someone
in the back row go, 'Tsk, tsk, tsk.''' Claudia on Farscape:
"The show takes 80 hours of my time a week and for the last four
years I've only had one week off over Christmas," |
