As a writer/performer she began working with the Handspan Theatre Company.
in 2001 she hosted the Eurovision Song Contest for Australian audiences.
In 1994 as Effie she worked on Fox fm Breakfast Radio as co-host.
She appeared in the record breaking theatrical shows Wogs Out Of Work, Acropolis Now - Live on Stage, Wog-A-Rama and her own one woman show Waiting for Effie which toured nationally throughout Australia in 1992.
She played Effie in five seasons of the hit TV sitcom series Acropolis Now, as well as writing eight episodes.
Hosted the television Ausralian Film Institute Awards in 1998.
Received an AFI nomination for Best Supporting Actress for Mull.
In 1993 Mary won the Logie Award and Variety Heart Club Award for Best Comedy Performer.
