Portia
De Rossi
Born 31 January 1973
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Got the role of Nelle
Porter on "Ally McBeal" after Vanessa Marcil was forced to turn
it down, due to signing on to Beverly Hills, 90210.
Got her role in Who
Is Cletis Tout? after Sarah Michelle Gellar turned it down.
Born Amanda Rogers
in 1973, at 15 she changed her name to Portia before studying law at the
University of Melbourne. "I got past the law of torts and the history
and philosophy of law, and thought, 'I am so out of here.'" "But
I like to think I would have continued had I not stumbled into Sirens."
Divorced from Mel
Metcalfe. She
was engaged to Francesca Gregorini, a singer/songwriter and stepdaughter
of ex-Beatle Ringo Starr. Portia is currently dating comedian Ellen DeGeneres.
Portia on Who Is
Cletis Tout?:
"Of all the movies I've done, it's the one I most like to watch.
It's a fast-paced, good ol'-fashioned caper movie. It's intelligent and
has twists within twists. It's almost like a tribute to all the great
old movies that shaped modern film."
Portia on Ally McBeal:
"That was a wonderful experience for me: being on a really innovative
show for four years. It changed my life."
Portia on nailing
her aussie accent for The Night We Called It A Day:
" The accent was a bit of a challenge, which is embarrassing to admit.
I think it was because I'd worked so hard to get rid of it. For nine years
I'd barely used it, then suddenly I was playing a character with a really
broad accent when I never really had one in the first place. It is embarrassing,
though: what kind of expat am I? Actually, I had an audition to play an
Australian character five years ago and they turned me down because my
accent wasn't good enough. Most people here don't even know I'm Australian." |
