Matthew Dyktynski Trained at Sydney's prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) Matthew was the last of the ABC mail boys in the corporation's Perth offices before successfully auditioning for NIDA and joining the prestigious drama school in 1990 & graduating in 1992 His first professional role was as David Dixon's understudy in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. At each performance Matthew would arrive at the theatre, just in case he was needed. He took to the stage just 15 times and admits to becoming extremely proficient at playing electronic games. Dyktynski made an impressive on-screen debut in Love & Other Catastrohpes. Dyktynski stage credits include: The Cherry Orchard, Stags & Hens, Electra, Crimes Of The Heart, Images Of Moliere, Melbourne Theatre Company's production of ASSASSINS and The Passion & Its Deep Connection With Lemon Delicious Pudding at the Melbourne Playbox. Dyktynski television credits include: Raw FM, State Coroner, Stingers, Water Rats, Blue Heelers, Horace & Tina, Shock Jock, Something in the Air, Sit Down Shut Up, Last Of The Knucklemen, The Man From Snowy River, GP, Halifax fp, Backberner and The Secret Life of Us. Dyktynski on Toni Collette & NIDA: "Toni and I are old NIDA chums. Although she was the year below me everyone at NIDA knows everyone - and Cate Blanchett was in my year - so I've been surrounded by these two great actressses who've both gone onto wonderful things!" Matthew describing his Japanese Story character Baird: "A man who has let the little nuts and bolts of life wear him down." Matthew on RAW FM & radio: "When I began researching the role of Robert I tuned in to similar community radio stations. It was great. The music is so up-beat. It's fantastic. Part of the magic is that the stations aren't slick. The youth don't care if you make mistakes. They don't need all the polish. They just want the honesty." Matthew on Emma-Kate Croghan: "There's a lot of filmmakers who are very interested in the shot, but Emma-Kate knew where she wanted to go. I wasn't sure exactly where I wanted to go with it, and after every scene I'd look at her and I'd get the thumbs up or thumbs down. I had real faith in what direction she was going in and in an industry where I guess there's sometimes a lot of cynicism and sometimes people are not sure if they have faith in their peers I definitely had faith in her." Matthew on Love & Other Catastrophes: "It was low budget and a real shot in the dark. I didn't expect to see it on the big screen, let alone achieving international acclaim." Matthew on his Love & Other Catastrophes character Ari: "Ari is one of those young men that I wish I was like; charming, intelligent and supremely confident. His journey, however, is a realisation that to find true love you have to let down your guard at times, exposing a side of ourselves that we least want to show. But whether Ari is between the sheets of his favourite Greek philosopher or those of his new lover, he's always moving brightly forward leaving in his wake a great behind." |
