Claudia Karvan

Born 19 May 1972 Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Daughter Audrey was born in 2001

Shot a scene for Star Wars: AOTC but it ended up on the cutting room floor.

She received the Australian Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress for Heartbreak Kid in 1993 and the Palm Springs Short Film Festival Audience Favorite Award in 1998 for Two Girls and a Baby.

Her first major stint at age 14 was in High Tide with Judy Davis.

Relaxes by surfing although is a self confessed 'crappy surfer'

Karvan on resisting the move to Hollywood:
"By saying that, I think you're giving me too much credit for control - or ANY actor really - over their own career. If one has a film that is successful and sells to America I suppose one can follow it over, but that's never happened to me."

Karvan on auditioning:
"I need a stiff Vodka just to settle my nerves; I find it a very difficult process. It's exciting once you're in there, but the build up is the killer, not to mention the horrible wait."

Karvan on her experiance in Star Wars:
"It was good fun, actually. It was one day's work and there was about 10 wardrobe calls for that one day. Amazing outfits. It felt a bit like — whew, this is big! But then you get on the set, and it's an all-Australian crew and it was lovely. I felt comfortable. And George Lucas, he was lovely, really lovely."

A excerpt from Claudia's 'Marie Claire:
What Women Want' speech: 'I want to open up the newspaper in the morning and not be faced with articles that describe the locking up of people who have fled their homelands in fear for their lives. I don't want to read that a United Nations representative has described our treatment of these people as "inhuman and degrading." I don't want much, do I? I've been fascinated and shocked and baffled by our treatment of those people on the 'Tampa' and other asylum-seekers who've arrived by boat. I don't know exactly why it has gripped me so much. Maybe it is because I have a tiny, tiny second-hand bit of insight into what it is like to be marginalised in this country.'
