Tara Morice

Born 23 April 1964, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia

Born in Tasmania Tara grew up all over Australia in Sydney, Alice Springs and Adelaide.

Tara is a Graduate of the Australian National University where she studied Australian History & a Graduate of NIDA [National Institute of Dramatic Art] in 1987.

Tara's first professional stage appearance was The Diary of Anne Frank at Hobart's Theatre Royal, in which she played the title role.

Tara has extensively toured with John Bell's Shakespeare Theatre Company. She has also appeared with the group, the Madrigirls and toured with Pardon me Boys, a forties-style dance band.

Tara danced & sang in the original stage version of Strictly Ballroom, directed by Baz Luhrmann, in Sydney (for the Six-Year-Old Theatre Company, an offshoot of the Sydney Theatre Company created to promote young actors) and at Brisbane's Expo 88.

Tara has known Baz Luhrmann since their days studying at NIDA. Baz is such a fan of Tara that he had her sing "Time After Time" on the Strictly Ballroom soundtrack — even though her character never sings in the film.

Nominated for an AFI & a BAFTA for her role in Strictly Ballroom.

Tara had a 2 second role in Moulin Rouge as a prostitute who looks at the camera for just a moment as it sweeps past in the opening wide shot of Paris and you sweep down.

Tara on Hotel Sorrento:
"It's quite a rare opportunity for a female actor working in Australia to have the chance to work in a largely female ensemble piece focussing on strong and complex individuals who just happen to be women."

Paul Mercurio on Tara:
"She taught me as much in my first film role as I taught her about dance. I hope I helped her as much as she helped me. We clicked straight off."
